a gift

i'd like to just take a moment,
and connect-

i'm at some family's house..
relaxing..
and really just realizing how beautiful
everything is, RIGHT NOW.

we all are alive for such an interesting time,
for the World,
and the most important thing is to breathe
and take the time to Love, and be Grateful.

To really LIVE.

there are those whom i know who are really Living,
and then there are those in abusive relationships,
robbing themselves of the chance to Live...

there are those whom i know are embracing themselves and others,
and there are those who hide from the world.

be good to eachother,
Give, and accept what you're given with Humility...

Smile, and try and make someone else Smile with you.

Share.

(even after the Holidays are over)

ENJOY YOURSELVES,
and ENJOY EACHOTHER.

and know that I Love you.

Merry Christmas,
and Happy Holidays in general.

BANQUET (twisting in the wind)

Wide awake at midnight
When all the good kids
Are asleep
The restless western sky
Is a deep blue blanket
For the banquet of you and I

She tastes like Kedamine
When she's ready
To RocknRoll
The air around here
Drops to 50 degrees
And all the dogs start to howl

She was built right
Out of my mind
She was built right
Out of my mind
I find that the purest form
Is both Simple and Powerful,
Like blood on purple flowers
Perfect sex on the hour

DRIVE CAREFULLY- (4am in Louisville)

so, we were comin around a turn on Grinstead Dr,

after the show in Louisville saturday night..
across the street from the largest most beautiful cemetary,

the headlights from the car comin toward us inched closer and closer..

in an instant we realized this oncoming vehicle was crossing over the center, onto the wrong side of the road- OUR side of the road.

we thinly escaped a head-on collision,

but could not avoid an accident-

Photobucket
he hit our vehicle, and trailer, crushing it and throwing the contents,

all our equipment, all over the road-

in the rain...
at 4 oclock in the morning.
louisville-DRIVE CAREFULLY.www.stopfrench.blogspot.com

so we had to cancel the next day in Indianapolis,

and yesterday in Chicago, and deal with insurance from hotel rooms.

BUT-
WE'RE ALIVE.

we're all ok, no injuries, and all equipment has been replaced..

and Cincinatti went really well tonight.

thanks to all who were concerned,

and even bigger thanks to anyone who helped.

we're back in action now

the desert, new mexico

...There are really no words.

Its so beautiful out here.

Listening to angels n airwaves, on the way from santa fe to el paso, the sky is a deep, royal blue.

Eyes stretch so far, to see to the horizon, and take it in..

Out here,
The stars come out to play so early.
The highway's cold and honest, and the warmth of hope and beauty becomes enough.

Family is such an interesting thing...
I have a family.

I always seem to be so far away, and I learn that when I get close to people, in a deeper, timeless way, I feel free to call them family.

But the time I have, to spend with real family, is so limited.

I guess I'm grateful,
For the fact that time and space don't tend to matter-
Not when it comes to Love.

Damn,
My mind and spirit get so much bigger out here...
There's so much breathing room.

At night,
The lights dance like diamonds,
On wide-open highways.

Its gorgeous.

..So, when we get to El Paso, we go immediately to the venue, soundcheck, and the limo should already be there waiting to take us to the radio station...

We have a bunch of bands,
And lots of people,
All so excited to see us tonight.

People I've never met-
Or had the privalege of sharing a moment with..
Yet.

But I know they dig what I do,
And I dig that..
Recognition's a tough thing to come by these days.

And I'm sure we'll have some real time to get intimate,
Get to know eachother tonight.

Plus,
I'll have more than enough space to stretch my animal limbs out at the hotel..
Have some fun,
Make some tea before bed,
Comfort- that's another one of those tough things to come by these days.

As I drift off,
Into my world,
I'll leave you tonight with some color for this picture:

Wearing my big huge red shades,
All black and a bright orange thermal...

Who knows what's in the cards for us...

Wide awake at midnight
When all the good kids
Are asleep
The restless western sky
Is a deep blue blanket
For the banquet of you and I

She was built right

the most exciting american event i have ever seen

(Posted to the www.myspace.com/palmerston at about 7pm, 11/4/08)

...So,
After months of build-up,
Today,
Tonight is the night to elect a new American leader.

In LA, its a beautiful, stormy autumn evening, and its about to rain...

All across the country,
Men and Women,
Brothers and Sisters gather
To make their own voice heard
Together.

I've observed quite a few elections in my quarter-century or so, of life so far, and I have NEVER seen anything quite like this.

Politics never really interested me, all that much, but I do love to see fellow human beings, passionately expressing their beliefs...

And regardless of the result of this event,
What's obvious is how much more important this election seems to be, than any election in history, really.

Its incredibly fascinating.

AMERICANS-
WE STAND, AWAKE,
TO WITNESS A MONUMENTAL OCCURENCE, THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A GREAT MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY.

I feel it necessary to remind anyone who may have forgotten, of that fact.

The sky over Los Angeles,
Prepares to open up,
And cleanse us all of our confusing past.
The aftermath
Will prove to be
The way we make it through,
Into the future,
...Where we will dance.

Take a moment,
Soak it in,
Build this memory with marble and gold.

No matter who it is that wins this crazy thing,
We are all here to be a part of a big moment in American History.

Have fun

snake and a party

There's a party in the forest,
That crazy forest by the coast,
Where will you be-
If you're not there with me?
There's a moment, its important,
It's important not to miss,
It's enormous-
And its gonna set us free.

A snake would swallow you
All in one piece
Sliding along the bottom
of a beautiful song-
It's violent
but you saw this coming
all along

There's a race, in the desert,
In the desert of New Mexico
They're all dying-
Like flying hot air balloons...

A Song for a Girl (rest in peace)

It was 2 weeks ago or less
That I heard from her last
Got word that Amy
Took her own life
I can't say I'm not surprised
Never saw it in her eyes
A distaste for the World
So bad that she'd wanna die

All throughout this country
There are people in poverty
And corn fields that stretch
To the horizon
Still, beautiful girls
In their diamonds and pearls,
Are at the end
Of their own tight rope

There's a giant cross
On the side of the highway
An exit or two away
from where we stayed
And give it a week,
I'll be back on the beach
Reminded of just how
Temporary-
This fragile, dying day.

Glad I got to meet you darlin,
I know you were there
Glad I got to look into your eyes
I knew you were alive.

Close your eyes darlin,
There's peace in rest.
There's peace in rest.

saturnalia

what happened
to that squeaky little voice?

your tiny hands
just barely reach the bottle
so far
the time when
we'd sleep on the beach,
under the stars
gave way
to the drugs, the music,
fast girls, fast cars
always moving,
waking up, not knowing
where you are

i was watchin the sun set
when you kissed me
you kissed me
tried to get my attention
we fell off the edge
gave in
to a wreckless oblivion

what ever happened to romance?

the fearless run off
with all the roses
and blood and sex

what ever happened
to the ghost of saturnalia?

they ran through the streets
with nothing on their feet
or hiding their hearts

what ever happened
to those moist mornings
of coffee and cigarettes
and your naked body,
my aching love?

this town
breathes a cloud
of cold night

and i know,
i know,
that part of you
would love it here
the lights so bright,
the sky so clear.

james dean's sillouhette

theres a cool blade in my pocket
its hangin out the side
waitin for someone to pick me up
and take me for a ride
theres a smiling face tattooed
on my tired middle finger
so sick and exhausted
always workin for our dinner

come on out and dance with us
we'll write our names in stone
we'll love like we are not afraid
to be cut down to the bone
leave all our empty promises
for someone else to bear
and pull it all together
like the end is oh so near

DREAM AS IF WE'LL LIVE FOREVER
LIVE AS IF WE'LL DIE TODAY

orange on the ceiling
and bright green on our hands
light blue on the sliver moon
and red all over the sand
purple on your fingernails
and pink is in your hair
black is all around me,
won't you show me
just how much you really care...

2:10am, 105mph

2:10 on a tuesday evening
doin 105 and i'm feelin fine
that girl's gonna get it get it get it
what she wants is on my mind...

she's ready to roll
and i'm ready to roll...
but she don't know
just what's in store
man, i've seen it before
take it down
and they always come back for more

watch it, she's spinnin
she's spinnin around
and spinnin around
and spinnin out

somethin's happened to the midwest woman
got a fire inside she can't deny
she's got a steel wool sweater
and snake skin boots
you can see that desire
in her eyes

she's spinnin around
she's spinnin out

"Into a valley of the thousand bright flowers"

...so i spent most of the day recovering
from the long night, last night.

we played an unplugged set,
the first with the new bassist, tyler,
as a bit of a rehearsal.
i think we have a couple unplugged appearances
on this next tour, so its good to warm it up.

damn good time.

but i didnt get to sleep til reeaally late
or somethin, so i spent a bit more of the day
in bed than i wouldve usually liked to.

but other than that,
got coffee,
read some ezra pound and kept it cool.

went to malibu to see a friend of mine-

now, i'd like to say...
its so funny how things come and go in this life.

its sometimes sad,
and sometimes relieving,
but its really just interesting all around-
and (because i am who i am) i find it generally amusing...
watching it all move.

some people drift off,
some people morph and change into seemingly
other people, and the connection changes,
some people stay in touch...
no matter what or where their life takes them.

and you never know what lies ahead,
but you can always make the effort.

i was having this conversation with my drummer, gabe,
a while back-
where we sat outside "LE CONVERSACION" (?)
on doheny, drinkin immaculate coffee and eating
the most beautiful pastries-
and discussed life, and plates...
and how some things stick, and some things dont, dig.

i believe we rested on the idea that-
even though sometimes,
what we want to stick doesnt,
and its a drag, we just want to hold onto it-
we dont know whats in store for us...

see, we all have a plate,
and when that plate is too full,
we're just wasting food,
and probly goin crazy from such an overabundance...
or eating too much and just getting fat...
so it only seems fitting, and even convenient,
that if its not part of our feast,
it wont stick to our plate.
(and things that are meant to, do.)

and some things
we're only supposed to have a taste of...
so everything MUST be savored, cuz as i said,
you never know.

and whats even more hilarious is gabe and i,
2 badass, crazy rocknroll motherfuckers,
(me probly making a couple people uncomfortable
with my ink and somewhat abrasive language)
sitting outside a french cafe, gettin deep
over coffee and pastries n shit.

but, in any case,
i do have a good feast goin at the moment...
and i'm definitely savoring, just in case
any of the things or people i care about
are just my small alotted taste.

...aaand speaking of feasts...
someone tonight asked me about thai food-

now, (terri), in los angeles,
the question of "the best thai food"
is a highly debated one...
some say that you have to go to thai town,
some say that you have to go to new york,
some even say, (including my guitarist fernando)
even though it blows me away,
toi thai is the spot-
which is just thai blasphemy,
as far as i'm concerned...
toi is a (or are) cool spot(s), i will say,
for vibe and ambience, and theyre open superlate,
which is always good...
but its hollywood, lets be honest-
what looks the best, usually,
is just a falsefront for something that is
sub-par and overrated.

go to toi if youre lookin to party,
not if youre lookin for
"THE BEST THAI FOOD IN LA", which i will say,
is at a place called, THE THAI HOUSE,
in yes, westwood, on gayley.

this place is outstanding.
its run by an endearing thai family,
its been there for ever, and they never disappoint.

get the mee-krob with whatever other dish you want.
(they do larger portions, and its always good to share)

...but i dont know how many people see this,
and its one of my favorite places to eat,
so please dont crowd me out of a table.

anywayz, thats it.
one of my secret spots devulged,
out into imaginary space.

(also, though, if youre in hollywood,
or if youre a deadhead eastsider,
which i find fairly funny- regardless-
and dont wanna leave the "too cool for the pool"
silverlake/hollywood area,
theres also THAI PEPPER on franklin.
at, i think cahuenga.
its also adequate. thanks K.)

so,
im goin into a bit of the darker, stranger,
"valley of the thousand bright flowers" place,
inside, so this whole blog-thing may start to get interesting.

stay tuned, whatever.

BEST PERSIAN FOOD- and possible new artistic ops..

after covering for Blitch,
i spent most of the afternoon with my good friend Joshua.
(some friends, i don't see nearly often enough)

we had a beautiful lunch,
during which we discussed the hilarity of people
and the sarcastic disinterest in boring, undesirables...

had some coffee and brainstormed/co-wrote
for a script that Joshua's working on for a pilot.
it was badass.

i got a few things done at the pad,
which was very necessary,
and then went out for a bit to enjoy my friday night.

had dinner with a couple friends-
BEST PERSIAN FOOD (goddamn!),
at a place called SHAMSHIRI GRILL,
on westwood blvd, in westwood- by ucla.

Ugh! man, outstanding chicken kabob dish and whatnot... incredible.

blew off teddy's for the night,

-hungout with a friend for a while...
all in all, a damn good 24.

you know, i was chattin with this dame a bit earlier-
when i mentioned that i've been doin what i can to live in a state of zen...
like cruisin the road that is my life, with the top down and my favorite shades on.

keepin it cool.

oh, also, i may have a chance to work with slash and duff from velvet revolver and gnr.
that could be interesting...

(ok, ok, OK- technology is wierd, but i'm convinced) BEST RESTAURANTS AND BARS IN L.A.

...ok.

so ive always been wierded out by technology,
specifically the internet.

i grew up as probly the last generation that didnt have the internet to learn how to READ with,
we had actual books, with yes... actual paper.

so it kinda wierds me out, to be honest...
this whole invisible world, where even fans of my band somehow are able to find my PRIVATE contact information
(i.e. my home address).

...yyyeah.

BUT, i was at dinner this evening (ravioli at Bossa Nova, robertson, beautiful by the way), at about midnight, which is just about my favorite time to eat a good meal at a good spot with good friends, and i was describing to my friend Matt that- because i never eat at home ("I ALWAYS EAT OUT" AHAHAHAH hellyeah), that i now happen to know of all the best places to eat for all genres of food in LA- more so, even, than the many LA natives ive astonished with this repertoire of dining expertise...

when he mentioned- "you should start a blog".

and i said-

"huh?"

and we went into a discussion with my other friend Jayson about what exactly that meant.

and yeah, i guess its free,
and its kinda fuckin badass.

and i'm realizing that i know of a lot of different kinds of places and things and stuff, not just around LA (because i seem to ALWAYS be on the road, especially lately) and that i can probly think of many-a-random piece of coolness to yap about.

IN FACT, i probly bore more than enough of my friends with this many-a-random piece of whatever, often enough to just put it all down here and tell anyone who's interested to check it out on here instead, filtering out all the uninterested parties and potentially saving lots of time, which i'm now wondering what i'll end up doing with...

so, stay tuned, if anyone ever reads these things, and we'll have lots of crazy shit to toss around.
